Zinc is an element listed on the periodic table.
When elements react they are called atoms.

Supplements of zinc are many and include:

elemental zinc, hard to digest
zinc-citrate, not overly active
zinc-gluconate, common but high in sugar
zinc-oxalate, skin or diaper rash
zinc-pyrithione, shampoo
zinc-sulfide,
zinc-glycinate, very effective ** suggested form to use

Zinc responds in physical chemistry similarly to magnesium.
A magnesium deficiency can have similar symptoms to a zinc deficiency.

​Zinc pyrithione is best known for its use in treating dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis.
Zinc is active to fight all bacteria but noted to be effective against many Strept and Staph infections.
Zinc is also used to treat psoriasis, eczema, ringworm, fungus, athletes foot, dry skin, atopic dermatitis, tinea, and vitiligo.

Zinc is used in paint to combat mildue, mold, algae and other fungi.
Zinc is used in hospital kitchens and sponges to combat germs.
Zinc used to be used in water pipes galvanized to iron.
